Journal Entry 1

How could I have not seen it coming? Top marks at the Academy, a solid job on the Lightning Rail, and the support of a nurturing family prepared me well in the ways of academia and magic but little in the ways of politics and power. So here I am. Run out of Passage to this hole in the world called Winterhaven performing menial chores for this insufferable self-important wizard Valthrun. Do his clothes really need to be washed in lukewarm water, scrubbed lightly but thoroughly with a fine brush and precisely one and three quarters teaspoon of Turing's Inspiringly Deceptively Easy soap (TIDE, like that is going to be anything worthy in the future), rinsed in tepid water and then hung on a silken line (inspected on every inch for imperfections by yours truly) tied to two ivory poles exactly seven and five eighth feet above the ground? What have I done to deserve this?

I suppose I will have to look to the bright side. I am alive and healthy. An opportunity is sure to present itself as a way out of this mess.

I think TIDE is going to be one of those things we'll find in every treasure trove of any wizard (or late wizard) we raid.
